Sequels are much awaited by die-hard fans, especially if the first movie had turned out to be a huge success. Kahaani 2 is the second installment of the critically-acclaimed and popular movie, Kahaani, released in 2012. Just like its predecessor, Kahaani 2 promises edge of the seat entertainment, carrying with it all the essential elements of a classic ‘whodunit’ such as suspense, mystery, and intrigue. The movie’s plot is refreshingly new, which ensures that the audience keeps guessing till the very end.
The movie begins with the everyday life of Vidya Sinha (Vidya Balan), a typical stressed working mother living in Chandan Nagar in West Bengal. The only good thing in her life is her teenage daughter Mini, for whom she has the most love and affection. However, there’s a problem, as Mini is paralyzed waist-downwards and needs constant care and attention. Vidya nurtures the dream that Mini will be able to walk on her feet again. Unfortunately, one day Mini disappears and as Vidya starts searching for her on the streets, she meets with a road accident. As Vidya lies on the hospital bed in a state of coma, Indrajit (Arjun Rampal), the investigating officer, comes across some startling facts. He learns that Vidya closely resembles Durga Rani Singh (Vidya Balan), an individual from Kalimpong, who is wanted for kidnaping and murder. Thereon, it’s a thrilling journey, as cops go on a mission to uncover the truth.
Vidya has delivered a good performance and she looks convincing in both her roles. Arjun Rampal has also created the right impressions among the audience. Most of the scenes have been shot at real locations, something that lends a sense of credibility to the movie. The background score matches the movie’s pace and feel, thereby augmenting the pleasure of watching a thriller movie.
Kahaani 2 may not be as riveting as the first one, but it has its own surprises. If you like thrillers, you should certainly watch Kahaani 2.
