Right after getting expelled from the Samajwadi Party (SP), Ram Gopal Yadav has said that party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav (MSY) was being misled by the people around him. He also said that MSY did not know the party constitution and could not expel the Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and himself from any of the party posts without hearing them out.
He mentioned that he and Akhilesh Yadav were expelled from the party within 2 hours of sending a showcause notice. They were not even given a chance to explain a chance to explain themselves before an appropriate party forum and they got expelled even before they got a chance to communicate anything with respect to the showcause notices.
He said that the ticket list that was finalized by Netaji has names of people who can’t win an election and will be sure to forfeit their deposits. Also, sitting legislators have been denied tickets to fight elections.
Ram Gopal Yadav has called for a national convention on the 1st of January, where the members of the SP appoint the President and other office bearers. Although MSY has said that only the Party President can call for such conventions, it is being said that over 50 – 60% of party members, MPs, MLCs and MLAs have signed a letter asking for a national convention. There were reports last night that all the Rajya Sabha Members of the Party have pledged their support to the Akhilesh Yadav faction of the party.
The party has just 5 Lok Sabha MPs. They are MSY, Tej Pratap Singh Yadav (MSY’s son from his second wife), Dimple Yadav (Akhilesh Yadav’s wife), Akshay Yadav (Ram Gopal Yadav’s son) and Dharmendra Yadav (an Akhilesh Yadav loyalist). Here too, Akhilesh Yadav seems to have the support of the majority of party MPs with only Tej Pratap Yadav supporting MSY.
While it is imminent that the two factions cannot continue in the same party, the fight is now for the SP name and symbol. This is because the party has a formidable, well oiled party machinery, which will be difficult beneficial to anyone who controls. In case there is a national convention, Akhilesh Yadav is expected to take control of the party and the government as he is said to have the support of over 200 SP MLAs.
UP CM is expected to form a coalition with the Congress and the RLD if he gets control of the party. A major confrontation between senior leaders of the party has the SP members worried about their poll prospects.
Governor Ram Naik has said that he is paying close attention to the current political proceedings. What has worried SP members has made members of the BJP and the BSP very
