Mumbai Indians prevailed in the IPL 2017 Finals and defeated the Rising Pune Super Giants by just 1 run. By doing this, the team has defended the title. The team has won the IPL Championships for the 3rd time which no other team has done so far.
In a heavily packed Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians batted first. After losing the openers cheaply, the team was struggling at 8-2. Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma came to the crease and they gave some hopes before Rayudu got dismissed at 12. Krunal Pandya joined Rohit and by adding another 1 runs, Rohit Sharma fell. The score was 56-4 by then in 10.1 overs. In the next 10 overs, the team could manage to add another 73 runs making the total of 129 runs.
For RPSG, Unadkat,Zampa and Christian secured 2 wickets each. With one of the lowest total to chase, RPSG started batting. Though they lost Rahul Tripathi when the score was 17, Rahane and Smith gave some hopes to the team by adding 54 runs to the partnership. Rahane got out when the score was 71 in 11.5 overs. MS Dhoni joined Smith and he could not finish the game as was expected. He got out cheaply for 10 runs and the team score by then was 98. After that Manoj Tiwary joined Smith who sailed through till 20th over until both of them got out in succession. The team needed 6 runs in the last 2 deliveries but could manage to score only 4 runs losing the thriller by a mere 1 run. This was one of the closely contested IPL Finals till date.
Mumbai Indians was awarded Rs.15 crores and RPSG was awarded Rs.10 crores. Both the Orange and Pink caps went to Sun Risers Hyderabad with Davind Warner for highest score in the series and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar for highest number of wickets.
