The murder case proceedings against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh started today. The trial for two separate murder cases against Gurmeet began today in a special CBI court in Panchkula. Heavy security cover was provided to avoid any misadventure and nuisance by Dera followers and other anti-social elements. Due to security reasons, Gurmeet was not brought to the court in person. He attended the court proceedings through video conferencing. It may be recalled that Gurmeet has already been convicted by a CBI court for rape and has been sentenced to spend 20 years in jail. He is currently lodged in Rohtak District Jail. The court heard the arguments from both sides and will hear more on Monday.
Seven other people have also been accused in the murder case. These people were present in the court today. The hearing of the Ranjit Singh murder case will be held on Monday (September 18) and journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case will be held on September 22. It will take some time for the case to come to its final hearing and for the court to announce its final decision. In a positive development for the prosecution, Gurmeet’s former driver has agreed to provide a fresh statement. He had earlier given a statement that was in favor of Gurmeet, but now he says that he wants to change his statements since he was earlier pressurized to give a biased statement. The murder cases are being heard by special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh, the same judge who had earlier convicted Gurmeet in twin rape case and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
