After a Muslim minister in Bihar chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’, a fatwa has been issued against him by a Muslim cleric. The cleric said that the minister’s marriage could be annulled for his serious mistake. The minister who chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ is the newly appointed Bihar minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Khurshid alias Firoz Ahmad. Ahmad is an MLA from Sikta in West Champaran district in Bihar. The slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’ is usually used by people from the Hindu community and it is used as sign of reverence to Lord Ram. However, when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar won the trust vote, Ahmad got overly excited and he shouted the slogan ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The incident happened outside the Bihar Assembly.
Ahmad later realized his mistake and he has apologized to everyone who may have been hurt by his words. “I want to say sorry to those who have been hurt,” Ahmad said in a statement. Ahmad also tried to justify himself by saying that he does not differentiate between religion. He said that he is first a human than anything else. “Every person lives with his or her own beliefs and I did not abuse anyone. If anyone thought it was an abuse and would have come to me then I would have answered,” Ahmad said. Speaking about the fatwa, Ahmad said that his god knew his intentions when he shouted the slogan and he is ready to do it several times more for the development of Bihar.
