After removing TR Zeliang, Nagaland Chief Minister Shürhozelie Liezietsu has appointed Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu as the Chairman of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN). It may be recalled that former chief minister of Nagaland, Zeliang has staked claim to form the government, stating that the current alliance has lost majority whereas he has the support of various MLAs. Zeliang is currently in Delhi, where he is planning to meet Governor P. B Acharya who is at present out of Nagaland. The rebel MLAs are camping in Kaziranga in Assam.
It may be recalled that Shurhozelie’s son Khriehu Liezietsu has refused to accept his appointment as the advisor to chief minister. His appointment had triggered unrest in the Naga People’s Front (NPF). Opposition parties had described his appointment as favoritism and nepotism. It had led to the demands of resignation of current Chief Minister Liezietsu. Around 41 MLAs had demanded his resignation, which is quite surprising since the Nagaland assembly had a total of 60 members. It indicates that Liezietsu may have in fact lost the majority support required to continue the government.
