LUCKNOW: BJP MP Varun Gandhi praised on India’s first prime minister and Congress member Jawaharlal Nehru while addressing participants at a youth conclave.
“People think that Nehru became the first prime minister and lived a lavish life. What they do not know is Nehru spent 15 and half years in jail to achieve that,”’ he said.
“If someone puts me in jail and says that after 15years I will be made PM, I will say ‘Pardon me; It’s too taxing,” Varun said to the youth.
He added Nehru had sacrificed is family, life and bore wounds in his body to free India and it should not be wasted.
Varun further added, “Nehru and Chitranjan Das were left of centre while Lala Lajpat Rai was right of the centre during the freedom struggle. Their ideologies differed.”
He said, “Earlier one had to write 100 books to qualify as politician. I want to bring that thought back.”
The BJP MP also expressed concern over the threat to freedom of speech. He questioned the way state government uses advertisements to regulate media houses and called for an end to such practices.
He also states an example without naming the media house or the state said, “One of the biggest media house is without government advertisements for past one year because the government did not will too.”
Varun during the conclave mentioned that 82% of young politicians have a political background.
“My name is Feroze Varun Gandhi. If I had been Feroze Varun Ahmed or Tiwari then I would have also been an audience like you.”
“I firmly believe politics is root cause of all problems youths should come forward and change the system,” said Gandhi.
