NGT will take appropriate action on oil spill off the coast in Tamilnadu. Oil spill is now directed to NGT (National Green Tribunal) seeing the adverse effects on environment and the health of residents. The plea looks for reimbursement and seizure of the vessels.
This issue has alarmed the life of fishes and other water animals; they have become the victims of this oil spill practice in the coast of Tamilnadu.
The appeal will be seen by the committee which is to be headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar. Also formation of an expert committee to supervise the whole cleanup process and assess the damage caused to the environment is to be done.
As per the news on 28th January 2017, two commercial vessels crashed with another vessel the Port of Kamarajar in Ennore, Tamil Nadu. This collapsed resulted into a huge spill of dangerous oil and LPG close the shoreline which will finally led a fatal loss to environment and ecosystem.
In the plea it has sought the seizure of both the aberrant commercial vessels till the time their proprietors pay satisfactory compensation for the damage to the environment caused by them, also a panel should be formed in view of assessing the damage caused to environment due to this event. Plea also indicates oil spill has also touched the Marina shores beach in Chennai.
