NIA conducts more raids in J&K to uncover terror funding

As part of its continued efforts to put an end to terror funding, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out more raids in Jammu & Kashmir today. Two of the raids were conducted in Jammu at the property of a close associate of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The raids were part of the investigations in the ongoing case of terror funding. It may be recalled that 7 people have already been arrested by NIA earlier and they have been sent to NIA’s custody for 10 days.

In another related news, the NIA has summoned Naseem, the second son of Geelani, to appear before the investigation agency. Naseem is the leader of separatist organization Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and he too is suspected to be involved in terror funding. He has been summoned to appear before the NIA on Wednesday. Geelani’s elder son Nayeem has also been summoned and he will have to appear before the NIA on Monday. The raids conducted today were at the office and residence of a lawyer, who is said to be close to Geelani. The lawyer had made several foreign trips, due to which, he had come under the radar of NIA officials.

It may be recalled that Geelani’s son-in-law Altaf Ahmed Shah alias Altaf Fantoosh is already under arrest and he is being interrogated by the NIA in the same case.
