NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya resigns


Arvind Panagariya resigned few minutes ago as the vice chairman of NITI Aayog.  He is expected to be going back to the USA to resume his earlier profession of Teaching. As per the resignation letter that was given by Panagariya, the last date of his work would be 31st of August 2017.  

Having worked for World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade Organisation, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, he was widely criticised for his strict approach on various cases that were brought forth before the forum and has given the verdict without budging to any political pressure.  Panagariya has also been credited with working for Asian Development Bank(ADB) as a Chief Economist.

He was appointed vice-chairman of NITI Aayog on Jan 5,2015. It is also to be noted here that NITI Aayog was earlier  known as the Planning Commission.
The reason for the resignation is not yet known though some speculations states otherwise. The next successor will be selected in the due course of time. No name has emerged as the effective successor until now but is expected to be announced soon considering the importance of the position he held.
