In a significant development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in New Delhi. The meeting between Nitish and Modi took place after both attended a lunch that was hosted by Modi for the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth. The meeting is being considered significant and political pundits say that it may carry a hidden message since Nitish Kumar had skipped Sonia Gandhi’s luncheon meeting yesterday. It may be recalled that this luncheon meeting called by Sonia Gandhi was attended by leaders of 17 opposition parties.
Opposition parties are making a desperate attempt to weave some sort of a coalition so that they can have a say in the election of the next President of India. The current president Pranab Mukherjee has shown his reluctance for a second term, which is why opposition parties are making efforts to finalize a candidate of their choice.
It may be recalled that yesterday, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav had attended Sonia Gandhi’s luncheon meeting instead of Nitish Kumar. While speculations are rife, Nitish Kumar tried to downplay his absence by saying that it was a routine affair and there were other important priorities.
