Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is in Delhi to attend the farewell dinner for outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee, met Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today and discussed a range of topics. One of the key agenda of the meeting was to find a solution to the increasing differences with JD(U)’s alliance partner RJD in Bihar. A number of corruption charges have been leveled against Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s son, Tejaswi Yadav, and with JD(U) members asking for his resignation, the alliance has come on the verge of splitting. The Mahagatbandhan in Bihar is in serious trouble in view of the allegations made against Tejaswi Yadav.
The Congress party wants to save the alliance since a break in the alliance would provide BJP to increase its presence in the state. Earlier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had tried to intervene and now the job to resolve the differences is being managed by Rahul Gandhi. Rahul has taken it as his own responsibility to ensure that the alliance sticks together in Bihar. In the one-on-one meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Nitish Kumar explained the graft charges made against Tejaswi Yadav. Experts said that Congress party trying to save the alliance is proof that the Congress party only cares about its political interests and is willing to ignore everything else including corruption.
