Newspatrolling: In a significant political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned from his post. With this, the so called ‘mahagathbandhan’, which was much celebrated, has come to an end. The mahagathbandhan (alliance) included Nitish led JD(U), Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD and the Congress. Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation today from the post of Chief Minister to the Bihar Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi. This surprising move comes in the wake of Lalu refusing to allow his son Tejashwi Yadav’s resignation. Tejashwi Yadav is the deputy chief minister of Bihar. Lalu refused to allow his resignation even when he has been involved in a corruption case.
With Nitish’s resignation, the political scene in Bihar has entered a chaotic and unpredictable phase. There are reports that BJP may support Nitish to form a new government in Bihar. However, most of it is currently speculation. Earlier, BJP had said that it is ready to support the JD(U) from outside so that Nitish could continue in office. However, Nitish’s resignation has eliminated that possibility completely. It may be recalled that Lalu and his son Tejashwi have been named in a corruption case by the CBI. JD(U) leaders have been demanding Tejashwi’s resignation and asking him to come clean in the cases filed against him. However, the father-son duo has consistently refused to heed to the demands and have denied the allegations leveled against them.
