Nitish Kumar who has resigned as CM of Bihar last night has come to Raj Bhavan for the swearing-in ceremony. After news emerged on corruption charges on Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav who is the son of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish as a CM has asked Tejashwi to resign which we all know. On this account, taking the onus, Nitish resigned last night and tendered his resignation to the Governor who accepted it and asked Nitish to continue as an acting CM until the new CM is nominated.
This action has prompted Narendra Modi, PM of India to tweet congratulating Nitish on taking steps to curb corruption which would impact positively in the lives of 123 crore Indians. Since RJD is the largest party in the State with 80 MLA’s, its head Lalu Prasad Yadav said hat he would claim the stake since he has to be calle first being the single largest party, by the Governor.
However BJP which has 53 MLA’s has extended its support to the 71 MLA JD(U) party headed by Nitish Kumar. The party’s wanted to hold on the post since they do not want to burden the exchequer by another fresh round of elections which is a huge waste of public money.
BJP leader S Prakash said, “Tejashwi Yadav was adamant not to resign from the cabinet after he was chargesheeted by the CBI in the disproportionate asset case. Nitish Kumar, who has a clean image, could not stand with the rigidness of Tejashwi Yadav to continue in the cabinet and he was left with no choice but to resign himself.
“Prakash further added that “as a gentleman, Nitish chose to resign.”Nitish Kumar and BJP leader Sushil Modi will take oath as Bihar Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister respectively on Thursday at 10 am.
Sushil Modi will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister said BJP Bihar president Nityanand Rai. “The Governor invited us for oath ceremony at 10 am today. Two people are to take oath- Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister and Sushil Modi as the Deputy Chief Minister,” he added.
RJD on the other hand is claiming that it has support of more than half of the JD(U) MLAs whereas Congress is holding an emergency meeting now.
Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh tweeted saying “Nitish’s step is disappointing. Was he not aware about Lalu ji and his family,” . He also added “Nitishji should know that Bihar chose the ‘maha gatbandhan’ against the BJP/Modi government; he should come back and be the part of grand alliance.”
In the presence of Governor of Bihar Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi took the oath and were sworn in as CM and Deputy CM of Bihar.
The BJP and JD-U have two days to prove their majority and form the new government.
