As India continues to put pressure on Pakistan over Kulbhushan Jadhav’s death sentence, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that they will not bow to pressure and Kulbhushan Jadhav will not be pardoned. Sources indicate that Pakistan Army Chief himself called Sharif and told him not to bow to any pressure from India. It may be recalled that the Pakistani Army holds great influence over the political system in Pakistan and it has the final say on many issues.
Pakistan maintains that Kulbhushan Jadhav is an Indian spy working for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and he has been handed the death sentence since he was involved in espionage activities against Pakistan. However, this claim has been denied by the Indian government, saying that Kulbhushan Jadhav started his own business after early retirement from Indian navy. Indian authorities say that Jadhav was abducted by the Taliban and sold off to Pakistan. It is an attempt by the Pakistani government to tarnish India’s reputation among the international community.
