North Korea detains another U.S. Citizen

Kim Hak-song, an employee of Pyongyang University of Science and Technology was detained on Saturday for the North Korean government. Kim is a Korean by ethnic and was born in Jiin,China and was educated in University of California who has also majored in agriculture at a university in Yanbian, China

According to the Korean Central News Agency, he was detained as the Government suspected hostile acts being undertaken by Hak-song which said “A relevant institution is now conducting a detailed investigation into his crimes.”

The State Department of US said that it is aware of the detention and its spokesperson said “The security of U.S. citizens is one of the department’s highest priorities.” This takes the total number of detainees to four.

The detainee’s classmate David Kim said that Kim Hak-song came to the United States in the mid-1990s and became the Citizen of US in early 2000 and came back to China after having lived in US for 10 years. His family members are still in China and Korea.
“He was a very diligent, hardworking man determined to help people in North Korea,” David Kim said.
“Professor Kim was a man who would call North Korea as his own country. He went to Pyongyang to devote himself to the development of North Korea’s agricultural technology so that the North can be self-sufficient with food,” David Kim  who continued “As he struggled to fund some of his projects, he would spend money out of his own pocket.”
