Amid rising tensions between North Korea and the United States, the North Korean government has warned US that it is ready to sink an US aircraft carrier. North Korea said that this would be done to prove its military might. The warning comes after two Japanese warships joined an US carrier group for exercises in the western Pacific. It may be recalled that US President Donald Trump had ordered the USS Carl Vinson carrier strike group to head towards the Korean peninsula, after North Korea had issued threats about nuclear strikes against US and its allies in Asia. Exact details about the location of the carrier strike group have not been provided, which is making North Korea anxious and forcing the country to speculate and issue threats.
An article published in the Rodong Sinmun, the newspaper of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, read, “Our revolutionary forces are combat-ready to sink a US nuclear powered aircraft carrier with a single strike.” The paper compared the aircraft carrier with a gross animal and said that killing it with a single strike will demonstrate North Korea’s military power. It may be recalled that North Korea will be celebrating the 85th anniversary of the foundation of its Korean People’s Army on Tuesday.
