In a development that could threaten world peace, a North Korean envoy said that the country would continue to strengthen its nuclear attack capabilities and missile technologies. The envoy also said that it has no fear of US sanctions that seek to isolate North Korea among the global community and plug its economic and financial interactions with the rest of the world. The envoy added that North Korea will continue to focus on developing a pre-emptive first strike capability as well as an inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) that would have the capacity to target neighboring countries.
“We strengthen our national defense capability as well as pre-emptive strike capabilities with nuclear forces as a centerpiece,” said Choe Myong Nam, deputy ambassador at the North Korean mission to the United Nations in Geneva. It may be recalled that the Trump administration is currently thinking about even harsher sanctions against North Korea to counter its nuclear and missile threat. It’s been almost half a century that North Korea has remained under sanctions. However, the country has managed to survive by focusing on the principles of self-sufficiency.
