Metro users can now use their debit/credit cards to buy token or recharge their smart cards at the token vending machine.
Delhi metro rail corporation on Tuesday launched the cashless token sale and smart card recharge facility using debit and credit cards.
The facility was inaugurated by DMRC MD Mangu Singh.
“This is expected to make Metro travel more convenient. It will give commuters fast access, besides helping in managing the problem of change at the stations,” Singh said
At present the facility is available only at six token vending machines and two recharge card terminals at Lal Qila Metro station .
“By the end of this year, approximately 400 token vending machines/recharge card terminals at all the stations of the entire DMRC network will have this facility. By next year, another 500 of such machines will be placed at different stations, including the ones on the Phase III network, the spokesperson said.
“The commuters will now be able to use the unattended point of sales (POS) terminals at the vending machines by using PIN authentication through their debit or credit cards,” the spokesperson said.
SpokePerson added that “these vending machines are also equipped with CCTV’s to ensure safety of commuters at the unattended POS terminals”.
