Political changes are happening at a breakneck speed in Nagaland. As TR Zeliang was appointed as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland, replacing Shurhozelie Liezietsu, who was sacked by Governor P B Acharya, everyone thought that the political space in Nagaland will cool down. However, the political turmoil in Nagaland is far from over since Zeliang was sacked from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), within hours of being appointed the new chief minister of Nagaland. It has been alleged that Zeliang was involved in anti-party activities, due to which he has been sacked from the party. The expulsion will be in effect for a term of 6 years.
Speaking about the expulsion of Zeliang, NPF working Presidents Huska Yepthomi and Apong Pongener said, “He was adamant and has already planned to dismantle the NPF party.” However, Zeliang does not appear to be even a bit worried about his expulsion. He appeared quite unfazed and said that he will continue to represent and lead NPF in the House. “The expulsion from the party does not affect the membership inside the House,” he said. Earlier during the day, Zeliang was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland.
