Om Puri, after facing sedition charges for making alleged ‘insulting comments’ on Indian Soldiers, has made apologies and stated he deserved punishment for his comments.
Puri during a debate on Hindi film producers ban on Pakistani actors had said “Did anybody force them (Indian Soldiers) to join the army?”
A lawyer on Tuesday filed a police complaint against 65-year-old actor for the alleged insulting comments on the Indian Soldiers during a news channel debate on Monday. The police personnel, however are seeking legal opinion and probing the matter before registering an FIR based on the complaint.
Puri talking to reporters after a police complaint was filed said, “I am very embarrassed at what I said. I deserve punishment and not forgiveness. I firstly apologises to Uri Martyr family members . I also ask for apology from the whole country and the Indian Army.”
He added , “I know it’s not justified that I say so much and then think a sorry would be fine.”
The actor said that he is guilty and deserved a punishment. “I want to be tried by the Army. I should be court-martialled.”
He also added that the Army should teach him how to use weapons and deploy him at the same site were brave men sacrificed their life for the country.
Soon after Puri’s statement on the TV show he was lashed by social media users and his own fraternity to condemned his comments. Many social media users asked Puri to shift to Pakistan if he had no respect for the Indian Army.
Four fidayeens’ of LeT had attacked an Army camp in Kashmir’s Uri. Twenty soldiers had attained martyrdom in the militant attack and more then dozen soldiers were injured.
