Yet another explosion rocket Pakistan today. A powerful car bombing near the office of the provincial police chief in southwestern Pakistan on Friday has killed 11 people and wounded 20, officials said.
Initial reports indicated a vehicle approached the check post and explosives were set off when the driver of the vehicle was stopped by the police.
Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif issued a statement condemning the attack, which comes near the end of Ramadan this weekend. No one claimed responsibility for the attack.
In his statement Mr.Sharif said, “These cowardly attacks are a sign of growing frustration of terrorists and extremists who have even targeted innocent civilians during the Holy month of Ramadan,”.
Baluchistan has long been the scene of a low-level insurgency by Baluch nationalists and separatists, who want a bigger share of the regional resources or outright independence, but also other attacks, mostly blamed on the Pakistani Taliban.
The local police in a statement said, Some of the wounded are still in critical condition. Most are police personnel, as well as a traffic warden. It is widely believed that it is a suicide attack aimed at causing more damage.
The attack took place in the red zone, close to the IG’s office as well as the State Bank of Pakistan.
