Pakistan has defeated Srilanka to enter into Champions Trophy semi finals. In the semis, they will face the powerful England to see whether they could go past them to the Finals.
Initially when Pakistan started to play their innings, many thought they would lose but thanks to the knock by their captain, the team reached the target set by the opponent comfortably. Earlier, Srilanka batted first and managed to score 236. At one stage, they were at 161-3 but lost all the 7 wickets for just 75 runs. Pakistan bowlers were inspiring yesterday with Hasan and Junaid claiming 3 wickets each and Amir along with Ashraf secured 2 wickets each which means there were no run-outs at all.
For Srilanka, opener Dickwella scored 73 runs. The other top scorers were Mathews with 39 and Mendis and Gunaratne scored 27 each. It wasn’t an impressive performance from the Lankan side.
Pakistan had a flying start by scoring 74 runs in just 11.2 overs before Zaman fell for 50. For an addition of another 63 runs, the team lost another 5 wickets and before everyone thought that Pakistan will choke to defeat, Sarfraz gave the crucial stand the team needed. He remained unbeaten with 61 runs which saw Pakistan reaching the score in 44.5 overs.
On the other Semi-Finals, India will be playing against Bangladesh.
