After India requested consular access for Kulbhushan Jadhav, Pakistan gave a cold response and denied the request. Pakistan even went to the extent of saying that linking Jadhav’s case to that of common prisoners is akin to travesty of logic. It may be recalled that Pakistan considers Jadhav as an Indian spy and its military court had handed death sentence to Jadhav. However, the death sentence has currently been revoked by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) after India filed a case. The ICJ has ordered a stay on the death sentence of Jadhav till the case is heard and reaches its final conclusion.
Rejecting India’s request for consular access for Jadhav, Pakistan said that India was suppressing facts by claiming that Jadhav is a civilian prisoner. Pakistan claims that Jadhav is an agent of India’s Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) and he was in Pakistan to create trouble in Pakistan. A statement released by Pakistan’s foreign office also said that Jadhav has also confessed to his crimes. Pakistan claims that Jadhav’s espionage activities in Pakistan has caused significant damage to the country and affected the lives of many people.
