After the US government designated Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin as a global terrorist, the development has not gone down well with Pakistan. Pakistan said that the US government’s decision was completely unjustified. Pakistan said that it will continue to fight for the right of self-determination of Kashmiri people. It also said that it will continue to provide political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiri people and their cause for freedom. Pakistan reiterated its stand that the struggle of Kashmiri people is legitimate. However, Pakistan was trying to play safe by not naming Syed Salahuddin in any of these conversations. Nonetheless, it was obvious who Pakistan was referring to in all these statements.
An excerpt from the statement issued by Pakistan read, “The designation of individuals supporting the Kashmiri right to self-determination as terrorists is completely unjustified.” Talking about the Kashmir issue, the statement said, “Pakistan shall continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support for the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for the realization of the right to self-determination and the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.”
