In another terrorist attack on Paris, a French policeman was shot dead and two others were wounded on Thursday night.
The attack was considered very threatening as its just days before presidential elections. The Islamic State militant group has taken responsibility of the attack.
France President Francois Hollande claimed that it was a terror attack.
The wide avenue that leads away from the Arc de Triomphe had been crowded with Parisians and tourists enjoying a spring evening, but police quickly cleared the area, which remained empty well into the night of all but heavily armed security forces and police vehicles.
The Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins had claimed that they have identified the terrorist but still investigating for his accomplices. Police has also searched the home of the dead attacker in a town east of Paris.
France Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said that “A little after 9 PM a vehicle stopped alongside a police car which was parked. Immediately a man got out and fired on the police vehicle, mortally wounding a police officer.”
France is under a state of emergency since 2015. The nation has suffered a spate of Islamist militant attacks and more than 230 people have been killed in the past two years.
