At the NTL facility, which has end to end manufacturing of LED lighting products, the committee was taken through the complete manufacturing lifecycle and process. The highlight was on showcasing the checks & measures that are put in place to ensure consistently high quality for the end products. These are at par with the best available standards globally and something that other Indian manufacturing facilities should follow so that Indian consumers can have the best products, produced locally.
NTL has one of the largest LED manufacturing facilities in India with an installed capacity of 2 Million lamps per month. NTL employs around 4000 people in 7 manufacturing facilities at Noida, Dehradun and Roorkee. NTL is an ISO 9000certified facility and the lamps have BIS, CE, LM-79 and UL certifications.
“Energy conservation is an important aspect of our deliberations and LEDs are the most energy efficient lighting source in the world today. Our study tour focuses on understanding the manufacturing process for LED lamps and where we stand so far as indigenous manufacturing is concerned“, says Dr. Kirit Somaiya, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy. He led the 10 MPs who visited the NTL facility along with Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Services Limited management.
Dr. Somaiya observed the need to strengthen the Indian Industry so that the Government’s LED initiative can be adopted by the private sector and transition of Indian consumers from Incandescent bulbs/ CFLs to LED Bulbs can become more broad-based and good quality LED Bulbs can be made available to Indian retail consumers at a very competitive price.
Dr.Somaiya further stressed on need to focus on quality to protect Indian customers from sub-standard foreign supplies of cheap LED products. The Parliamentary Committee also deliberated on policy initiatives to help Indian Industry become global leaders in this fast-growing sector.
“NTL is proud to host the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy’s study tour and showcase our capabilities to the esteemed members. Our focus on energy efficiency led us to focus on LEDs from 2012, and today we are proud to call ourselves a leading Indian player in the category”, says Mr. Arun Gupta, Managing Director, NTL Group. “Our manufacturing capabilities are second to none and we are also looking at capacity expansion shortly”, he adds.
