BEST-selling author Peter May returns to The Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns for the third year in a row to discuss his latest book, Runaway, (partly based in Newton Mearns) in a free event organised by Waterstone’s at Primavera Bistro on Monday 19th January between 7pm and 8.30pm.
The event comes exactly a year since a sell-out crowd of book-lovers flocked to hear the award-winning Scottish television screenwriter, novelist and crime writer read from Entry Island.
In Runaway, five teenage friends flee Glasgow for London in 1965 to pursue their dream of musical stardom. Yet before the year’s end, three return damaged. In 2015 a brutal murder forces those three men, now in their sixties, to journey back to London and finally confront the dark truth they have run from for five decades. Runaway is a crime novel covering 50 years of friendships solidified and severed, dreams shared and shattered and passions lit and extinguished; set against the backdrop of two unique and contrasting cities at two unique and contrasting periods of recent history.
Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at The Avenue, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Peter May back to The Avenue for the third year in succession. Each time he returns to The Avenue, Peter draws a capacity crowd as fans flock to hear the acclaimed author talk about his work and answer questions. I’m sure this year will be no different – particularly given the local interest in the book which is partly set right here in Newton Mearns!”
