In a significant development for Kandla Port Trust, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched six key projects that are worth around Rs 993 crore. The pumping station has been built at cost of Rs 148 crore. The pumping station is huge and it has been designed to lift water 18-meter high, which will be directed into the KBC channel that flows towards Anjar and Mandvi.
While addressing the public, PM Modi said that ports are vitally important for economic growth. He also lauded the rich maritime tradition of Gujarat. “Gujarat is known for its rich maritime tradition. This spirit continues even today. There is something very special about the land of Kutch and the people who live here. Good ports are essential for India’s progress,” Modi said. Talking about the Kandla port, PM Modi said that Kandla port has become one of the best ports in Asia. He also said that infrastructure, efficiency and transparency are the pillars of economic growth.
The new pumping station launched by PM Modi will offer huge benefits to local people, as it will make available water for irrigating nearly 60,000 hectare of land in Gujarat’s Kutch district.
