A stretch of Kochi Metro that has now been completed will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, June 17. He will be the first official passenger to ride this stretch of Kochi Metro. However, not everyone seems to be happy since ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan has not been invited to the inauguration ceremony. It may be recalled that the Kochi metro project was launched in 2012 and it was being managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). DMRC’s top advisor was Mr. Sreedharan, who has been credited with creating a world class metro system in the national capital. This is why many people are not happy when he was not invited for the inauguration of Kochi metro.
Initially, a list of 14 people was made, who would attend the inauguration ceremony and share the stage with PM Modi. This initial list included the name of M Sreedharan. However, it is alleged that when the list was sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for review, Sreedharan’s name was struck off the list. Even officials from the Kochi Metro Rail Corporation said that they could not do anything since the final list was prepared by the PMO. However, Sreedharan himself has no complaints, as he said that it was a routine affair and he accepts the decision.
