As part of its ongoing investigation in the Rs 500 crore fraud case, the Gautam Budh Nagar Police on Friday took into custody two directors of the Noida-based company Webwork Trade Links Pvt Limited. It is alleged that the company has defrauded nearly 2 lakh people to the tune of around Rs 500 crore. The arrest of the two directors, Anurag Garg and Sudesh Verma, comes after the earlier police action, in which, the company’s bank accounts were frozen and its office in Noida Sector-2 was sealed.
The modus operandi used by the company involved duping people by promising them handsome returns for just clicking some links on the internet. The company would ask people to pay some fees upfront to become eligible for the scheme. Gullible people would fall for the trick and end up losing their hard-earned money.
The police have already frozen a bank account with Rs 28 crore. Investigations reveal that another Rs 20 crore was transferred during the last two days, which the police are working to locate.
It may be recalled that a similar case was detected in Noida, just some time back. However, the fraud amount involved in that case was much higher at Rs 3,700 crore.
