Premier Tennis League to see top Indian players in action

  • Tournament to be played between November 28th and December 3rd at Deccan Gymkhana, Pune
  • Vibrant Volleyers will take on Accurate Aces and Baseline Bombers will face Sharp Smashers on opening day
  • Tennis Icon Leander Paes to play an exhibition match on December 3rd

Pune, 25th November, 2014: The third edition of the Premier Tennis League, India’s first and biggest national level tennis league for Indian players that will be played between 28th November and 3rd December at Deccan Gymkhana will see some of the top players in action. This League, organized by Amanora Education Foundation and authorized by Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) would feature 5 franchise teams competing for top honors with each team boasting of iconic Indian players.

The tournament will adopt the ‘All Play All’ format and each match will consist of 11 games. Accurate Aces, Baseline Bombers, Dazzling Deuces, Sharp Smashers and Vibrant Volleyers are the 5 teams participating.  Tennis Icon Leander Paes will deliver a lecture on “Making of a legend” on December 2nd in the presence of Corporate honchos and will play an exhibition match on December 3rd.

The match schedule and the team jerseys were unveiled at an event today in the presence of Mr Aniruddha Deshpande, Chairman, Organising Committee, Premier Tennis League (PTL), Mr Sundar Iyer, Secretary, Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), Mr Nandan Bal, Patron, PTL, Mr Nitin Kirtane, Tournament Director, Mr Hemant Bendrey, Head-Technical Committee and team owners.

The league will feature 6 internationally renowned Indian players who have brought accolades to our nation. These include Asian Games Silver Medalist and ex-Olympian, Vishnu Vardhan; Sriram Balaji who has won the ITF Futures singles title and 5 ITF doubles titles this season; and Sanam Singh, Silver Medalist at the 2014 Asian Games and winner of 2 ATP challenger doubles titles this season.

The other stars set to grace the court during the league include Saketh Myneni, who won multiple medals at the Asian Games 2014; Ramkumar Ramanathan, winner of 4 ITF futures titles and equal number of ITF futures doubles titles this season; and Jeevan N, winner of ITF Singles title and 5 ITF Futures titles this season.

 Addressing the gathering, Mr Aniruddha Deshpande said, “We are extremely delighted to be taking the Premier Tennis league into its third year. The league was conceptualized to give a platform for Indian tennis players to display their skills and we are happy that our efforts are paying off. I would like to thank Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association for their support to this endeavor, my friend Leander Paes for agreeing to be part of the league and motivating us, members of the governing council of the league and all those who have working tirelessly in making this tournament a grand success. We promise you that with each passing year we intend to raise the bar to the next level and give opportunity for more and more Indian players to be part of this tournament.”

Mr Sundar Iyer, Secretary, Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association said, “MSLTA is happy to be part of the Premier Tennis League. MSLTA conducts various activities for the promotion and development of tennis in the State of Maharashtra and I am glad that Aniruddha Deshpande, an avid sports lover had come up with this league to provide an opportunity for Indian tennis players to hone their skills and at the same time play competitive tennis. Tennis has always been a game to watch with eyes wide open and fingers crossed and I am sure that tennis lovers will enjoy every moment of Premier Tennis League.”
