The Indonesian Open has witnessed a positive start for the Indian shuttlers with top seed PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal winning the opening rounds.
PV Sindhu who is seeded 4th in the tournament had won it easy over No.20 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in straight sets. She defeated her opponent without sweating much and the score card read as 21-12 21-19. In the initial set, Sindhu had it easy as she raced past the required points of 21 with 9 points lead but on the second set, she faced tough competition from her opponent who matched her at each and every juncture making it a tough one to decide. Had she lost the set, Sindhu would have lost the game point forcing the match to go into third set and the results may have been different. Sindhu did not lose her cool and played some brilliant shots making her opponent tough to decide on how she would hit and where she would hit.
On the other hand, world No. 11 Saina rallied her way to a 17-21 21-18 21-12 win over the eighth-seeded Thai Ratchanok Intanon in women’s singles. Ratchanok was expected to win it easy over Saina since she always had a upper hand but the game turned completely in favour of Saina who though struggles in the frist set by losing it for 17-21 did not lose her grit and won the next two sets foe 21-18 and 21-12. The last set came in easy for her since she zoom past to the lead and continued maintaining it comfortably till the end.
