It’s said that family comes first, but in Raazi, the nation comes first. Spy stories have always evoked significant interest among people, and the curiosity is even more when the neighboring nation is involved. Raazi is a level up since the spy is a woman who has to sacrifice a lot when she is destined to work for the nation.

Inspired by true events, Raazi is a period-thriller film that tracks the journey of a Kashmiri girl named Sehmat (Alia Bhatt). Sehmat is a simple girl, just like any other, but her life changes when her father Hidayat Khan (Rajit Kapoor) takes the decision to send her on a spy mission to Pakistan. And this is no ordinary journey since Sehmat has to marry a Pakistan army officer Iqbal Syed (Vicky Kaushal) and perform all the roles and responsibilities that are expected from a wife. All while, she has to motivate herself to remain committed to the nation and secretly spy for the country. The information she gathers is supposed to be crucial, since it would impact the imminent war between India and Pakistan.

This spy story is different because it’s more about handling one’s emotions, rather than action and explosions. The transformation of a simple girl into a determined spy is worth watching. The emotional bonds shared between various characters have also been expressed in a realistic manner, without any type of hype or exaggeration. Alia Bhatt shines in the movie, as this is one of her best performances ever. She has yet again displayed the depth of her acting skills and how she is becoming better with every movie. Director Meghna Gulzar has been instrumental in bringing out the stirring emotions that characters share in the movie. The music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is groovy and it resonates with the era of the 70s.

Raazi is a must watch for spy movie fans. The content is based on a true story, which makes it all the more interesting and exciting. The movie’s climax is also something that’s worth watching.
