Rafael Nadal has more reasons to cheer. The Spaniard who was lost the No.1 position on July 6 2014 to Jokovich could never make it to the top since it was then took over by Andy Murray. The men’s tennis became real competitive with the championships being won by these players along with Federer and Stan Wawrinka. Apart from Wawrinka, the other players always gave tough contest to one other for the top slot.
Roger Federer has announced his unavailability to play in the Cincinnati Open citing back injury. He said he got injured in the Montreal Open when he played the finals against Zverev which he eventually lost it. Otherwise the tournament would have been his 8th appearance which he usually does it as a warm up match prior to the start of the U.S. Open.
“I am very sorry to pull out of the Western and Southern Open as I always enjoy playing here. Cincinnati has some of the best fans in the world and I am sorry I will miss them. Unfortunately, I tweaked my back in Montreal and I need to rest this week.” said Federer in his statement.
The pull out of Federer has cleared the way for Nadal which would see him reach the top spot when the rankings are released August 21st.
