The uncertainly in the world of cricket became evident once again after the Committee of Administrators (CoA) put on hold the appointment of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan as consultants. This has been done even when the appointment of Ravi Shastri as the Indian cricket team coach has been confirmed by the CoA. Shastri’s appointment was approved in a meeting by CoA members Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and BCCI CEO Rahul Johri. The CoA also said that the selection of support staff will be done by July 22 in consultation with coach Ravi Shastri. Experts said that this move is likely to give even more power to the coach, which may not be good in the interest of Indian cricket.
It may be recalled that earlier Dravid was chosen as the consultant for batting skills, whereas Khan was chosen for bowling skills. But, with their appointment put on hold, it has created a lot of uncertainty. Already, there are speculations that Shastri may choose his own men as support staff. Speaking the CoA’s decision, Rai said, “We have taken all the recommendations of the CAC for Ravi Shastri as head coach and we will further discuss with him appointment of other coaches. We have set up a committee and they will speak to them (CAC), communicate with them after talking to Shastri. The support staff has been decided in consultation with the head coach.”
