Rahul Gandhi has taken out a massive rally in Uttarakhand, a 75 km road show that passes through Bhagawanpur, Jhaberda, Roorkee and Haridwar city. Today being the last day of campaigning for Uttarakhand assembly polls, the Congress leader covered 10 assemblies. The assembly polls in Haridwar will begin on February 15 and will be concluded on the same day. The elections will be conducted in a single phase. Voters will choose their leaders for the 70-member Vidhan Sabha. The current government in Haridwar is facing a tough challenge from BJP.
Rahul’s rally attracted large crowds and people could be seen waiving at Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi is campaigning for the current chief minister Harish Rawat. In his rally, he said that he has asked Rawat to take strict action against corrupt people.
The results for Uttarakhand assembly polls will be declared on March 11, along with the results of other four poll-bound states – Punjab, Goa, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur. Uttarakhand is the only state where Congress and BJP are the only two major competitors. Congress will be fighting the anti-incumbency factor whereas BJP will be trying to control the damage caused due to demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.
