Congress VP Rahul Gandhi launched the Karnataka government’s Indira Canteen program on Wednesday.
The Indira Canteen program aims at providing affordable hygienic meals.
During the inauguration, Gandhi, while giving his speech , made several mistakes saying no one would go hungry in Bengaluru, Rahul said, “That’s the vision of the Amma… Indira canteen,” quickly correcting himself.
Towards the end of his speech too, Rahul said eradicating poverty and feeding the hungry was the “vision of Amma” and then corrected it to Indira.
Congress, which is the ruling party in Karnataka, has launched the Indira Canteen program under which 101 canteen are launched in the primary stage.
The canteens are named after former Indian PM Indira Gandhi, and will provide food at a minimal cost of Rs 5 and 10.
The Rs 88 crore project envisages canteens in each of the 198 wards of Bengaluru. While 101 canteens were inaugurated on Wednesday, the remaining 97 will open on October 2.
