With demonetization and mega scams taking center stage, the time couldn’t have been perfect for a movie that showcases an honest officer’s fight against the corrupt system. Raid has made it to the theaters at just the right time, when the common man has seen quite a bit of action from the police, CBI, ED, NIA, and other government agencies. This is one of those rare occasions, when the audience gets to witness the intricacies and challenges of an actual Income Tax raid. The fact that there’s significant curiosity among the masses to know what actually happens during an Income Tax raid is something that automatically makes the movie the preferred choice for the audience.

Set in 1981 in Lucknow, Raid is the story of conscientious and honest Income Tax officer Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), who has his eyes on a powerful politician named Tauji (Saurabh Shukla). Amay has information that shows that Tauji has amassed great wealth, most of it through illegal means. Before Amay, no one had dared to check and verify the income of Tauji since he is considered an extremely dangerous person. However, Amay is not any ordinary IT official and is not afraid to take on the powerful Tauji. He decides to conduct an IT raid on Tauji’s premises and thereupon begins one of the most challenging journeys of his professional career as an Income Tax officer. Tauji’s premises proves to be a lion’s den and things take an unexpected turn, risking the lives of everyone involved in the raid.

Raid has the trappings of a real-life Income Tax raid as well as all the fast-paced entertainment one would normally find in a Bollywood thriller. The script and dialogues are interesting and powerful, which ensures an engrossing experience for the audience. There are several twists and turns that will keep your eyes glued to the screen. The suspense also builds up dramatically, as the IT sleuths work on the mystery of locating the hidden assets of Tauji. Ajay Devgn fits perfectly in his role of an infallible public servant, where his resolve and intensity are worth watching. Saurabh Shukla has also performed well as the quintessential corrupt politician, who will go any length to secure his wealth and prestige.

Raid is a true delight and one of the rare crime thrillers that is based on a true story of an Income Tax raid. If you are curious about how the Income Tax guys work, you can definitely watch this movie.
