The Indian Railways will launch a new type of train service in July called the Utkrisht Double-Decker AC Yatri (Uday) Express service. This would be targeted for overnight journeys and it will be operational on high-demand routes such as Delhi-Lucknow. The idea is to reduce passenger load on high-demand routes. Each coach in these trains will have 120 comfortable reclining seats and large automatic food and tea/cold drink vending machines. Since the coaches will have almost double the carrying capacity of standard coaches, the fares on these trains will be lower than that of 3AC class in regular mail/express trains.
The coaches will also have LCD screens and Wi-Fi-speaker system. These trains will seek to provide improved amenities to passengers at fares that are less than the 3AC fare. Although sleeper births will not be available on these trains, comfortable seating and other facilities will ensure a relaxed journey. The seats will offer adequate leg space, so passengers can relax at night. The coaches will feature aesthetically-designed interiors and will come equipped with bio-toilets. This train service was announced in rail budget 2016-17. The train will clock an average speed of 110 km per hour on high-density routes.
