Going against the system can have serious consequences, something that Raipur jail deputy Varsha Dongre learned the hard way. Varsha had alleged in her Facebook post that young tribal girls were being subjected to torture at police stations. The state authorities have considered this as a case of indiscipline and have suspended her. It may be recalled that this is not the first time that Varsha has taken to social media to voice her opinions. In an earlier post, she had said that the government will not be able to end Naxalism as long as the capitalist system was being forced upon the people of Bastar. She had said that when tribals are being forced to vacate their land, they are left with no other option but to fight back, though whatever means possible.
After the recent Maoist attack in Sukma that had resulted in the death of 25 CRPF personnel, Varsha had said in her Facebook post that many tribal villages were burnt. She also said that tribal women were being raped. These posts have been deleted after the disapproval shown by authorities. Earlier also, Varsha had to face a probe due to her controversial posts on Facebook. Responding to the recent controversy, a senior government official said that even the Chief Minister (Raman Singh) has given directions that officials should avoid making personal comments on social media platforms. He said that Varsha will have to explain her point of view before an inquiry committee, post which, further action will be taken.
