Even as the news of derailment of Shaktipunj Express was starting to worry people, two more train accidents have occurred in the country. The second train accident involved a goods train and it occurred near Khandala, Maharashtra. Two coaches of the goods train had derailed in the accident. In the third incident, the engine and luggage brake and generator car of Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed when the train was about to reach New Delhi station. The train was only 200 meters from New Delhi station when the engine and generator car derailed. However, the impact was very mild since the train had slowed down to less than 10 km per hour as it was approaching to halt at New Delhi station.
No one was injured in the derailment of Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani Express. None of the passenger compartments were affected in the derailment. The railway authorities have called a high-level meeting to discuss the safety in train operations. Newly appointed railway minister Piyush Goyal will have to work hard to reduce train accidents and preserve the brand image of Indian Railways. Officials have reached the spot and a thorough investigation is underway. One of the officials said that some portions of the track were found to be broken, but it is yet to be ascertained whether they broke before or after the derailment.
