Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has planned to visit India-China border areas in the Uttarakhand this week. It may be recalled that various transgressions by China’s People’s Liberation Army has been reported in the area in the past. Rajnath is expected to visit the area in Barahoti, which is manned by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. He will interact with the border security forces to understand their problems and the behavior of Chinese troops in the area. The Barahoti area is located at an altitude of 14,311 feet. The visit is significant since it will the first such visit by a senior minister in the NDA government after the resolution of the Doklam issue. The government does not want a repeat of the Doklam issue, which is why pro-active measures are being taken to resolve any emerging problems at the border posts between India and China.
During his four-day trip, Rajnath will also be visiting other border areas such as Rimkhim (altitude 12,500 feet), Mana (10,500 feet) and Auli (10,200 feet). He will be addressing a gathering of the probationers of the IAS, IPS and other services at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. He will also hold talks with central government’s additional secretary rank officials. He will be reviewing the various infrastructure projects that are being undertaken in the border areas. Problems often occur in the India-China border areas since international boundaries have not been properly demarcated in various areas.
