Ram Jethmalani quits as Kejriwal’s counsel

Ram Jethmalani, India’s leading and one of the highest paid senior lawyer has quit as Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s counsel. Jethmalani who was in news few weeks back when the tanker scam had hit the Delhi government had famously said that he would appear for FREE when queries were raised as to whether he is accepting the bribe tainted scam money from Kejriwal has now sent a whopping bill of Rs.2 crores.

Jethmalani whose earlier bill had a mention of retainer of Rs.1 crore and also the appearance fees which ran for few lakhs of rupees had been forced to take the decision after Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that he never instructed his counsel Jethmalani to use objectionable words against Jaitley during hearing of the case on May 17. He was representing on defamation case filed by Arun Jaitley over Arvind Kejriwal.

Earlier, when Jaitley had asked Jethmalani whether he has used the objectionable word with the consent of Kejriwal, Jethmalani replied in affirmative which had angered Jaitley further and slapped Kejriwal with another defamation notice demanding Rs.10 crores.

Jethmalani in the meanwhile has written a letter to Kejriwal accusing hIm that he had used even more derogatory languages against the CM during private discussions. The CM denied the charge of Jaitley that the questions with derogatory remarks were “clearly designed to insult and/or annoy” him. Kejriwal has also instructed his counsel Anupam Srivastava, to remind Jethmalani that no such instructions were issued to him in his meeting with him.

“That with due respect it is submitted that neither the answering defendant (Kejriwal) nor the counsel briefing the senior counsel (Jethmalani) gave instructions to the senior counsel to use the objectionable words on May 17, 2017,” the affidavit filed before Justice Manmohan said.
