Mother of a 15-year-old rape-survivor was shot by bike-borne criminals in New Delhi’s Jamia Nagar on Friday.
Police said the incident occurred when the victim was on her way to a local hospital.
According to police, they have learnt that the 47-year-old woman was being accompanied by her daughter, when bike-borne criminals opened fire at her from a close range and fled.
Locals rushed the victim to AIIMS where she is undergoing treatment at the trauma centre. Her condition is said to be critical.
Locals claimed that the attack on the woman was carried out by four people who have been accused of raping her daughter.
However police officials say the two incidents could not be related to each other.
“In Friday’s incident, the men who fired at the woman are unknown. Both the cases are related or not will only be clear after investigation,” said DCP (South East) Romil Baniya to the press.
Police have lodged a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) against unknown shooters.
According to police the victim’s daughter is a class 9 student was raped by a builder who had met the girl via her classmate. The accused had made MMS of the rape-survivor and was blackmailing her. He had raped her in various locations in the national capital and forced her to have sexual-relations with other men too.
Till the time report was filed police had failed to arrest the accused of both the cases.
