It’s bad news for those who were planning to choose Reliance Jio’s Summer Surprise plan, as the telecom giant has withdrawn the plan with immediate effect. Reliance took the decision to withdraw its Summer Surprise plan after receiving a recommendation from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). It may recalled that the Summer Surprise offer was launched on March 31, the day from which Jio was to formally end its free offer and start charging customers as per their respective plans.
Under the Summer Surprise offer, customers who chose the Rs 99 Prime membership till April 15 along with any of the standard plans would get 3 months of services entirely free. The offer was a huge hit as customers could be seen lining up for new SIM cards or to change their existing SIM cards to Reliance Jio. Jio said in a statement that people, who have already subscribed to the offer, will continue to get the benefits associated with the plan. However, no new subscribers will be added since the plan has been withdrawn with immediate effect.
