Roger Federer creates history; wins Wimbledon title for 8th time

Roger Federer created history today after he won his 8th Wimbledon title, defeating Marin Cilic in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. This tournament has been quite good for Federer and he had not faced any significant challenges even before the finals. It’s a great moment for Federer’s fans who have been waiting for this moment for such a long time. With his 8th win, Federer now holds the record of the most Wimbledon wins, breaking the earlier record of William Renshaw and Pete Sampras, both of whom had won the Wimbledon title seven times. Federer has won the Wimbledon title in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and today in 2017.

Federer, who is 35 years of age, has also become the oldest man in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon title. The third seed Federer defeated seventh seed Cilic in straight sets. The match went on for one hour 41 minutes.
