The Karnataka government on Friday announced Rs 10 lakh reward to anyone who provides clues about the killing of senior journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh.
Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who held a meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said the government was ready to provide additional personnel to the special investigation team.
“The team has been instructed to probe every angle. Only the probe can reveal the truth,” Mr. Reddy said.
“Cash rewards are generally announced when investigators hit a dead end. The announcement has come too soon, perhaps because they (SIT) have not been able to get any definite lead on the killers,” said a senior police officer, who didn’t want to be named.
The city police asked public to share any information that they may have in connection with the case through a specific phone number and e-mail id.
Mr Reddy said ,”The government had stepped up the investigation, they are doing the job round the clock. They are collecting information from all sources,” he said.
