The Delhi police have booked the principal of Vasant Kunj’s Ryan International School on charges of negligence that resulted in the drowning of a six-year-old student. The class teacher of the victim has also been booked by the police. Charges have also been filed against the school’s administrator, maintenance in-charge, gardener and pump operator. The kid, Devansh Meena, had gone missing on January 30, 2016 and later it was discovered that he had drowned in a tank in the school. A charge sheet has been filed by the police before a Delhi court and the case will come up for hearing on May 31.
The school’s principal Sandhya Sabu was not directly responsible for the civil work that was being undertaken at the school, but still it is being deemed that she failed to ensure the safety of the six-year-old student. The class teacher was booked since she had failed to notice that the six-year old was missing from the class. However, the primary accused is the school’s administrator Francis Thomas, who was directly responsible for the ongoing civil work in the school. It’s alleged that Thomas had not obtained completion certificate for the building from the civic authorities.
Charges against the school management in-charge Puran Singh, gardener Ram Narayan and pump operator Yogesh Kumar have been filed since they failed to keep the pump room locked, which resulted in the drowning of the six-year-old student.
