Few players have the capacity or perhaps the capability to captivate and silence audiences with a single flick of their boot. Chennaiyin FC’s Bruno Pelissari is one such talent, who has lit up the Hero Indian Super League (ISL)with an array of skills. The dynamic midfielder, who has often acted as a link between midfield and attack, has showcased his Brazilian flair mixed with a little Samba magic, to pure perfection.
The 21-year-old starlet is a product of the famous Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense and made his breakthrough with the first team in 2013. For Chennaiyin FC, Bruno Pelissari has worked wonders. His ability to take on opposing defenders and beat them at will, often haunts the opposing defence.
Moreover, his ability to do something extraordinary out of absolute nothing is perhaps the biggest weapon that he possesses in his arsenal. The trait was capitalized to pure perfectionwhen Pelissari came on as a substitute, and within 13 minutes, scored a sensational goalto beat Kerala Blasters, Chennai’s semi-final opponents, in Kochi. It remains the only winner scored by a visiting player at the home of Kerala Blasters.
Stepping his game up a notch to replace Elano Blumer, who missed the second half of Chennai’s campaign due to injury, Pelissari has successfully filled in for the talismanic Brazilian. In the absence of Elano, Pelissari has often acted as a goal scorer and a goal provider. Although he does not have any assists to his name, his ability to draw out defenders from their space has worked wonders for Indian forwards such as JejeLalpekhluaand Balwant Singh.
Infused with the gift of a sudden burst of acceleration, Pelissariin his nine appearances has scored four goals and registered a mammoth 16 shots on the opposing target. Opening the goal-scoring charts for Chennaiyin FC, against Delhi Dynamos, wherein Pelissari scored from a corner kick, is just one such example of his prolific talent.
With the final stretch of the Indian Super League at hand, Pelissari’s involvement in the Chennaiyin team would be crucial and could be decisive. The AbhishekBachchan co-owned franchise would look to its Brazilian stars, the young Pelissari and the seasoned Elano, to weave theirmagic and help their club become ISL’s first champion.
